Creating a Character

Taught by Enda Braedon. Get a solid foundation for performing Learn some of the common approaches actors use to create characters and make their characters interact with others in a believable way.  Throughout it all the focus will be on how much 'fun' it is to be an actor and create a character.  Every week students will get a chance to try on different characters, different stories and different ways of making their characters 'real.'  For ages 9-13.
6 session workshop:  4-5 pm on Tuesdays: 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/24, 3/31.   Member: $45 / Non-member $50

Clowning & Slapstick

Like slapstick?  Want to be like Jim Carrey or Charlie Chaplin?  Want to know how to create a comedic character by starting with movement?  Learn the beginnings of physical performing with Enda O. Breadon - a physical comic with credits at some of the most prominent theatres in the U.S. & Europe. For ages 13 & up.
6 session workshop:  5:15-6:15pm on Tuesdays: 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/24, 3/31.   Member: $45 / Non-member $50

Saturday Art Workshops, Ages 5-8

9:30-11:30am on dates listed. Member cost $42 for all three classes or $15 each. Non-member cost $48 for all three classes or $17 each. Taught by Michelle Harrigan.
  • Craft-tast-stick Creations - What can you create with craft sticks? Fish, puzzles, sled, chair, puppets and much more. Let your imagination play as our teacher helps you expand your three dimensional thinking. February 28
  • Mini Mosaics - Play with texture and pattern while creating mosaics in a wide array of colors on various surfaces. March 28
  • Fabulous Flowers - Learn several different art techniques and put them to use as your create variety of flowers to put together into your own unique bouquet. This one makes a fun and unique Mother's Day gift! April 25

Saturday Art Workshops, Ages 3-5

9:30-11:00am on dates listed. Member cost $33.75 for all three classes or $12 each. Non-member cost $38 for all three classes or $14 each. Taught by Michelle Harrigan.
  • Milk Jug Masterpieces - Recycle Art! Create a variety of creatures real and imaginary from clean milk jugs. February 21
  • I Spy Bags & Jars - I Spy creates hours of entertainment. Choose from a wide variety of items to hide while you create your own I spy scene. March 21

  • Shaving Cream Sensations - Learn different painting techniques using shaving cream in a new ways to create multiple pieces of art including puffy paintings. April 18

Middle School Monkey Barrel

Want a parent-free place to hang out with your friends on Saturday night? Want a chance to act silly and goof around? Then join the Middle School Monkey Barrel on the third Saturday of each month. Hosted by the Monroe Theatre Guild, middle schoolers will get a chance to do improv games and act up – in a good way. For the same price as a movie, you’ll have a place to go and be ridiculous; a place that parents can feel okay about – and the snacks are included at no extra price. For all students 6th through 8th grade. Taught by professional improviser Enda O. Breadon. 

Doors open at 7:00pm, games and improv go from 7:30-10:00pm. $10 per Saturday, pay at the door. Come anytime, missing a month or joining later is no problem.

Michelle Harrigan

Michelle is an advocate for art at every age. She is a former preschool teacher, who has spent the last few years teaching art projects in a variety of different settings. Michelle is a mother of two budding artists who have been MTG participants for years. Ask her the best ways to get glue or glitter out of your carpet. She had a great time with students at the MTG summer camp, and is looking forward to having fun exploring art with young artists in her class.

Amber Dahnke

Amber currently is an elementary art teacher for one day a week each in both the Spring Green and Middleton school districts. Amber also has experience teaching high school art in Texas. She lives in New Glarus with her husband and two children. Amber is very excited about starting to work with the MTG Homeschool Art program and is looking forward to a great year!

Mary J. Harris

Mary is an actor, band leader and teacher. She has taught acting classes for MTG for 6 years. Originally from Chicago, she has studied improv at the Piven Theatre Workshop,  Meisner technique at the Actor's Center Chicago and is a graduate of Lake Forest College and Chicago Musical College. She believes in the power of improvisation to open doors for people of all ages.

Enda O. Breadon

Enda O. Breadon grew up in Monroe and first began performing with Comedy Sportz of Madison. In college he studied Theatre and Education, including a teaching internship at the prestigious Seattle Children's Theatre Drama School.  Since leaving college he was worked throughout the U.S. and Europe balancing 2 careers: 1) A director, playwright, movement coach and performer; 2)  A "teaching artist" working with classroom teachers of all ages and subjects on ways to use drama as a method for teaching core subjects.

Munchkin Masterpieces

Taught by Michelle Harrigan. Per session price is Members $22.50 / Non-members $25

Session I:  Mondays 1/26, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/2, 3/9 

Session II: Mondays 3/23, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4

Ages 2-5 with grown up helper, 10-10:30am.

Intro to the Arts

Each month, children ages 2-3 and an adult partner will explore the arts using a variety of artistic mediums along with drama-storytelling, dance, role playing, etc. Each month will have a fun and exciting new theme. Member cost $21 for all three classes or $8 each. Non-member cost $25 for all three classes or $9 each. Taught by Michelle Harrigan.
