The Odd Couple, by Neil Simon

Auditions July 8, 9, & 11

Performances October 2-11, 2026

Directed for MTG by Jennie Lembach with Assistant Director Genevieve Kundert.

The Odd Couple centers on Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar, two recently divorced men who decide to share an apartment in New York City. Oscar is a sloppy, carefree sportswriter, while Felix is obsessively tidy, anxious, and emotionally fragile. Their opposite lifestyles initially seem manageable, but soon their differences create escalating tension, arguments, and comedic misunderstandings. Through humor, the play examines friendship, divorce, masculinity, and the challenge of coexisting with someone fundamentally different.

Cast of Characters

Oscar Madison (40s-50s): A carefree, good-natured, divorced sportswriter who lives alone in a messy eight-room New York apartment.

Felix Ungar (40s-50s): A fussy man who knows that he is difficult to live with but cannot – or will not – make any concessions or compromises.

Gwendolyn Pigeon (30s-40s): Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor, one of a pair of English sisters. She is a widow.

Cecily Pigeon (30s-40s): Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor, one of a pair of English sisters. She is a divorcée.

Speed (30s-60s): One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Gruff and sarcastic, often picking on Vinnie and Murray.

Murray (30s-60s): A NYPD policeman, one of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies.

Roy (30s-60s): One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Oscar’s accountant. Roy has a dry wit but is less acerbic than Speed.

Vinnie (30s-60s): One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Vinnie is mild-mannered and hen-pecked, making him an easy target for Speed’s verbal barbs.
