the need for theatre education
"For art establishes the basic human truth
which must serve as the touchstone of our judgment".

which must serve as the touchstone of our judgment".
— Pres. John F. Kennedy, 1963
Today’s fast-paced world keeps us very busy with so many roads to navigate, obstacles to face, and different directions to go. Exhausted at the end of the day, we’ve forgotten to check in on our well-being, we didn’t take time to enjoy the journey, and we may not even be sure the final destination was where we wanted to be.
Through all of life’s chaos, theatre reminds us of who we are as human beings, and how precious that experience truly is. When we’ve lost our sense of self, theatre offers us a truthful mirror. When we feel most alone, theatre comforts us. When we need reassurance, theatre offers us laughter, joy, hope, and vision. That’s no easy feat.
In order to truthfully share all the dynamics of life from mankind’s worst moments to its highest achievements, theatre artists have to train their minds, bodies, and spirit to accurately play every possible note of human experience. It takes courage, hard work, and commitment that not everyone is willing to devote. But as the ancient Greeks knew, it’s absolutely vital in order to safeguard and to better our culture and our values.
Here at MTG, we will continue to offer theatre training because it is absolutely vital. We encourage you to visit this page every month and take what is useful to you. Tidbits, workshops, programs. Form new friendships. Challenge yourself to grow. Share what you can with others. Check in on your well-being. And most of all, enjoy the journey every step of the way.
